National Stock Numbers Listing
Previously, many National Stock Numbers (NSNs) were able to be satisfied by either a laminated or a solid body padlock based on their Commercial Item Description (CID). This often led to confusion due to a number of agencies or organizations that stipulated a particular “body type.” as mandatory or preferred. In order to relieve this issue, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has created and assigned new NSNs to only satisfy solid body padlocks. Effective on January 1, 2013 these new NSNs will become active in the Master Lock Government Products Price List and are listed below. Each of the new NSNs fully comply with the performance standards identified in CIDs AA59486 and AA59487. The only difference will be the “body type.”
For example: from January 1, 2013 forward, there will now be two (2) different NSNs for what was the 5340-00-158-3805. The 5340-00-158-3805 will ONLY satisfy laminated body padlocks and the NEW 5340-01-588-1036 will ONLY satisfy solid body padlocks.
